YOUTH
The Orion Youth Program
The Orion Youth Program is a comprehensive outdoor education and training program for youth up to 20 years of age. Our program directors have over 75 years of experience in Hunter Education, Bowhunter Education, NRA Rifle and Pistol, NASP Instruction and other basic and advanced outdoor skills.
Along with training and competitive programs, the Anderson County Sportsman's Club works with local landowners, volunteers and the KY Dept of Fish and Wildlife to organize youth deer and turkey hunts each year for the youth of Anderson County.
This program is designed to go from the classroom to the range, then the range to the outdoors - keeping our hunting and fishing heritage alive and well for future generations of Kentucky's youth.
The Anderson County Sportsman's Club in conjunction with the League of Kentucky Sportsmen (LKS) provide two competitive opportunities for youth each year.
The LKS Squirrel Rifle Shoots are .22 rifle shoots for youth up to 20 years of age.
Competitors must use a .22 rifle with open iron sites and shoot off-hand at a NRA #1 target at 25 yards. Only the best target shot during a season (January through October) is submitted for club, district and state awards.
The LKS Casting Competition is a competition for the youth angler.
As with the Squirrel Rifle shoots, these events are open to all youth up to 20 years of age. Targets range from 40 to 80 feet and competitors can use any type of fishing gear (push-button, spinning or bait caster) with a 5/8 oz casting plug. Only the best score cast during the season (January through October) is submitted for club, district and state awards.
For all LKS events, Anderson County Sportsman's Club will provide all equipment, ammo, targets and instruction. Events will be listed on the club calendar each month.
